The story of Graugnard Furniture and Appliance is as historic and unique as the family who opened and expanded it into a shining example of what one’s dreams can accomplish and the hundreds of lives that can be effected for the better by staying true to yourself and your beliefs.
Graugnard Furniture and Appliance, Inc. roots date back to 1890. The family business started as a general merchandise store serving the small community of St. James with everything from hardware to groceries. It was then part of a sugarcane plantation operation.
In 1968, Marcel Graugnard Sr. purchased the business from his three brothers and formed Graugnard, Inc. As the home furnishings division of the business grew, Marcel, Sr. purchased Wright’s Furniture store in Donaldsonville in 1972 and put Sonny, his oldest son in charge.
At the age of 22, Sonny took over the retail operation after the untimely death of his father, Marcel, Sr. The Donaldsonville store continued to grow in sales because of the hard work of Sonny and the communities’ support and continues today as a cornerstone business in this historic community.
