One of the greatest things about Graugnard Furniture and Appliance is the community we call home.
Donaldsonville celebrates it’s rich and diverse culture which dates back to 1699 when Pierre Le Moyne Sieur de Iberville discovered the city. The Acadians settled in Donaldsonville, then called Lafourche, in 1758 making Donaldsonville the second Acadian Settlement. In 1806 William Donaldson, a wealthy Englishman, acquired the land and dubbed the town Donaldsonville. In 1830 Donaldsonville was named the state capitol, though the city’s reign as capitol would only last one year. During the Civil War Fort Butler was built on the north bank of Bayou Lafourche by Union Soldiers to protect the shipping lanes. The city was then attacked and burned in 1862 by Union troops. Acadians, Indians, soldiers and pirates have contributed to the history of Donaldsonville.
